Zazi Mineral Cosmetics started out of necessity for my daughter Jenae. She fell prone to cystic Acne and she could not use products and/or makeup and she wanted to cover up. So ZAZI was born for that reason: “Look good, feel confident”.
A day in the life of ZAZI – talk us through it…
As a small business, I play a couple of roles and my day differs pending on which hat I am wearing for the day. If I were on the road attending Expo’s etc, I am up early having a nice breakfast and packing food for the long day ahead. Off to the show and spend all day demonstrating our products to clients and salon owners. If I am home in the office, first thing I will do is take my little fury family for a walk, then breakfast and settle in in front of the computer with phone close by. I spend all day, either answering emails, answering phone calls, on social media or booking events.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
My son, Matt. I am just amazed at his attitude to life, his achievements and his life balance.
How do you stay up to date with latest beauty trends?
I have two beautiful daughters that have their finger on the pulse in the beauty industry and they keep me updated, but I must say that I believe in that all good things come from necessity, so I relate most of our products to people’s needs.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Oh that’s an easy one. I love teaching the average woman how to apply their makeup. I just love making women happy and that’s what I do.
Best beauty tip/secret?
My best beauty tip would be to keep your brows as dark and thick as you can for as long as you can (not going overboard though). I am very happy that brows are the new black. It really is one of the most important features on a woman’s face, not to mention that it makes you appear more youthful.
In your spare time, what do you get up to?
Well, I guess I am like most people and spend it with family and friends. I am not fussy whether we go out or stay in, as long as we are together spending quality time. I do love attending the odd game of cricket as well. C’mon Aussie C’mon.
Best piece of business advice for someone starting their own business?
Be prepared to put in the hard yards as it is a long hard slog… but at the end of the day you must enjoy the journey.
Hopes, dreams for the future?
I am a very simple person, my hopes and dreams are health and happiness…and at least one grandchild. Ha!
5 words that describe yourself…
Passionate, determined, talkative, caring and friendly.
Motto that you live life by?
Oh that’s hard…there are so many. I have always taught my children that “If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all”, but one that I strongly believe is “if you are not happy with your life…Change it!” and another is “if you try…you might. If you don’t…you won’t”.
